Mulch and Bed Care in Casselberry

We clear out weeds, recut the edges and lay fresh mulch at the right depth so your beds look finished and your plants stay healthy. Before any work starts, we tell you what's causing the problems we see and what each option costs.

What mulch and bed work does for your home

Good beds frame your home and protect the plants in them. Mulch holds moisture in our sandy soil, keeps roots cooler through the long summer and slows weeds down. When it's spread too thin, too thick or piled against trunks, it causes problems instead.

We handle the whole bed: weeding, edging, mulch, and small fixes like replacing a struggling shrub or reshaping a bed line that has drifted into the lawn. If a bed needs a full redo with new plants and layout, our landscape design page covers that work.

Our approach is simple. We look at the beds, tell you plainly why weeds keep coming back or why mulch keeps washing out, and give you the options with their costs side by side.

What's included in a bed refresh

Weeding by the root

We pull weeds with the roots instead of just topping them. Dollarweed, nutsedge and creeping grass from the lawn all get removed before any new mulch goes down.

Cut edges

We cut a clean edge between bed and lawn so St. Augustine runners have a harder time creeping in. If you have curbing or pavers along the bed, we trim neatly along them.

Mulch at the right depth

We spread mulch about two to three inches deep and pull it back from trunks, stems and your foundation. You can choose pine bark, pine straw, cypress or other common options, and we'll explain how each one holds up.

Old mulch handled first

If years of mulch have built up into a thick, matted layer, we thin it or remove it before adding more. Stacking new mulch on top of a crust keeps water from reaching roots.

Small plant fixes

We can trim back overgrown shrubs in the bed, pull dead plants and set in replacements while we're there, so the bed is finished in one visit.

Signs your beds need attention

  • Bare soil showing through

Heavy summer rain and sprinklers wash mulch thin. Once you can see sand, weeds have room to sprout and the soil dries out fast.

  • Grass taking over the bed

If lawn runners have crossed the edge and rooted in the bed, it's time for a recut edge and a full weeding.

  • Mulch piled against trunks

Mulch mounded around a tree or shrub holds moisture against the bark and can lead to rot. We pull it back and spread it out.

  • Mulch floating onto the walkway

Lighter mulches can float and wash out after storms. We can suggest a heavier mulch or a small edge change that helps it stay put.

  • A gray, faded look

Mulch breaks down and fades in strong sun. If the beds look tired even when they're weeded, a fresh top layer usually fixes it.

How a mulch and bed job goes

  1. 1

    Walk the beds with you

We come out, look at every bed and listen to what's bothering you. Then we tell you what we see and why it's happening.

  2. 2

    Clear estimate by bed

You get a written estimate that shows weeding, edging, mulch and any plant work as separate lines, so you can pick what you want done now.

  3. 3

    Weed, edge and prep

On the day, we weed first, cut the edges and deal with any old mulch buildup. Walkways and driveways stay clear of mulch and soil.

  4. 4

    Spread and clean up

We lay the new mulch, rake it even and keep it off trunks and siding. Then we blow off hard surfaces and haul away the weeds and debris.

What moves the cost of mulch and bed work

Most of the price comes down to how much bed area there is and how much prep it needs before mulch goes down. We give you the numbers by phone or after a walkthrough, and the estimate shows exactly where the money goes. If you're pairing bed work with a bigger yard project, you can spread the cost out: we offer financing of up to $100,000, with terms anywhere from two to twelve years and no penalty for paying it off early.

Total bed area
More square footage means more mulch and more labor. A few foundation beds and a whole yard of island beds are very different jobs.
Weed load
Lightly weedy beds go quickly. Beds overrun with grass or nutsedge take more hand work to clear properly.
Mulch type
Pine straw, pine bark, cypress and other mulches each carry a different material cost and coverage rate. We'll tell you which tends to last longest in your setting.
Old mulch removal
Thick, matted layers sometimes need to be hauled away before fresh mulch goes on, which adds labor and disposal.
Access to the beds
Beds behind fences or far from the driveway take longer to reach with wheelbarrows, and that time shows up in the estimate.

Mulch and bed questions we hear most

Something not covered here? (407) 972-1255

How often should I replace mulch?

Most beds here need a fresh top layer about once or twice a year. Rain, sun and breakdown thin it out faster than people expect. We look at the actual depth and only recommend what the beds need.

Should I use landscape fabric under the mulch?

Sometimes, but not always. Fabric can slow weeds for a while, yet mulch breaks down on top of it and weeds root right into that layer. We'll tell you whether it makes sense for your beds or whether good edging and regular weeding will serve you better.

Does mulch attract termites?

Any mulch holds moisture, which is why we keep it pulled back from your foundation and siding. That gap matters more than the type of mulch you pick, and we leave it on every bed we finish.

Who will be working around my home?

Our own crew from a family-owned company. We're business licensed and fully insured, so you know exactly who is in your yard and that the work is properly covered.

Can you replace a few plants while you mulch?

Yes. We can pull dead or overgrown plants and set in replacements during the same visit. If you want a fresh layout for the whole bed, we'll point you to our landscape design service.
