ServicesPalm Tree Pruning and Removal
Palm Tree Pruning and Removal in Casselberry
We prune palms the way they actually grow. We take the dead fronds, heavy seed stalks and loose boots and leave the green crown that feeds the tree. When a palm is dying or leaning toward your home, we tell you plainly and remove it safely.

Pruning that helps the palm, removal when it's time
Palms aren't like oaks. They grow from a single bud at the top, and every green frond is making food for the tree. Cutting a palm down to a few spikes, the look some people call a hurricane cut, weakens it and can stunt it for years. Our rule is simple. Brown and hanging fronds come off, and green fronds stay unless they're blocking a roof, walkway or pool cage.
Some palms can't be saved. A palm that has lost its bud, shows lethal bronzing or has conks of Ganoderma butt rot at the base won't recover. We'll show you what we see and give you a straight answer on whether to prune, wait or remove. We are a family-owned company, and we'd rather keep a healthy palm standing than sell you a removal you don't need.
What our palm work includes
Dead and drooping frond removal
We cut brown and hanging fronds close to the trunk without gouging it. Yellowing lower fronds often point to a potassium shortage, so we may suggest leaving them and feeding the palm instead.
Seed pods and flower stalks
Queen palms and date palms drop heavy fruit clusters that stain pavers and draw insects. Taking them off before they ripen keeps the mess off your driveway and patio.
Boot cleaning and trunk shaping
On sabal palms, we can remove loose old frond bases, called boots, for a cleaner trunk. We leave the firmly attached boots alone so we don't wound the trunk.
Careful palm removal
We take palms down in sections when space is tight near your home, fences or pool enclosures. Our crews are business licensed and fully insured for this kind of work.
Debris haul-off and cleanup
Fronds are bulky and sharp. We load them out, rake the beds and blow off hard surfaces before we leave. If you want the stump gone too, we can add stump grinding.
Signs your palm needs attention
A skirt of brown fronds
Dead fronds that hang against the trunk can fall in a storm and give rats a place to nest. They're the easy, routine cut.
A spear leaf that pulls out
If the newest center frond is brown or slides out with a gentle tug, the bud may be dead. That palm usually won't recover, and removal is the safe call.
Fronds browning from the top down
Healthy palms brown from the bottom up. Discoloration that starts in the crown can signal lethal bronzing, which spreads to nearby palms, so it's worth a look soon.
Shelf-like growths at the base
Hard, mushroom-like conks on the lower trunk are a sign of Ganoderma butt rot. There's no cure, and the trunk can fail without warning.
A lean toward the house
A new lean or soil heaving at the root ball after heavy rain means the palm has lost its footing. We'll tell you whether it can stay.
How a palm job runs
- 1
Walkthrough and straight answer
We look at each palm, its crown, trunk and base, and what's underneath it. You get a written estimate that lists each palm and what we'll do to it.
- 2
Protecting what's below
Before cutting, we plan where every frond and trunk section will land. Over pool cages, roofs and landscaping, we lower pieces with rope instead of dropping them.
- 3
Pruning or removal
For pruning, we work from the crown down and don't use climbing spikes on palms that are staying, since spike wounds never heal. For removals, we take the palm down in manageable sections and cut the trunk low.
- 4
Cleanup and walk-around
We haul off fronds and trunk pieces, clean your beds and paved areas, and walk the yard with you before we go.
What moves the cost of palm work
Every palm job is priced per tree after we see it, because two palms the same height can be very different jobs. Here's what changes the number, and we'll explain each item on your estimate so nothing comes as a surprise. If you'd like to spread out the cost of a larger project, you can borrow as much as $100,000, pick a term anywhere from 2 to 12 years, and pay it off early without any penalty.
- Height and species
- A tall Washingtonia needs more equipment and time than a short sabal. Thorny date palms like the Canary Island date take extra care and protective gear.
- Access and what's underneath
- A palm in the open front yard is quicker than one wedged between a pool cage and a roofline. Tight spots mean rigging and lowering pieces by hand.
- Number of palms
- Doing several palms on one visit spreads setup and haul-off across the whole job, so the per-tree cost usually drops.
- Removal extras
- Trunk hauling, stump grinding and filling the hole all add to a removal. You can choose which ones you want.
Palm pruning and removal questions
Something not covered here? (407) 972-1255
How often should my palms be trimmed?
Most palms around here do well with one pruning a year, and some only need it every other year. Queen palms and fruiting palms may need more frequent attention for seed pods. We'll tell you what your trees actually need rather than putting you on a schedule you don't need.
Should I cut my palms back hard before hurricane season?
No. Over-pruning makes palms weaker in wind, not stronger, because the remaining fronds help protect the bud. Removing dead fronds and heavy seed stalks before June is the right prep, and leaving the green crown is the safer choice.
My palm has yellow lower fronds. Should those come off?
Often not yet. Yellowing older fronds usually mean the palm is pulling potassium from them to feed new growth, and cutting them can make the shortage worse. We'll look at the pattern and let you know whether to prune or fertilize.
Can you remove a palm close to my house or pool cage?
Yes. We take it down in sections and lower each piece with rope so nothing drops onto the roof, screen or pavers. Before any cutting starts, we'll show you where each piece will come down and where the crew will work, so you know exactly what to expect.
What happens to the stump after a removal?
Palm stumps are fibrous and break down faster than hardwood stumps, but they can still take years. We can grind it below grade with our stump grinding service so you can plant, lay sod or mulch over the spot.
Not sure whether to prune or remove?
We'll come out, look at your palms and give you an honest answer along with a written estimate. There's no charge for the visit, and we serve Casselberry and nearby towns like Winter Springs and Longwood.
